Altimeter Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
This policy explains what the Altimeter app ("the app") does with your data. The app is made by Furkan Özoğlu. We do not sell your personal data, and you do not need an account to use the app.
Location
- The app uses your location to show your altitude, position, speed, compass and weather. This happens on your device.
- To show weather, your location is sent to Apple WeatherKit. Maps are provided by Apple MapKit.
- Map layers (Topo, Outdoor, official national maps, relief, trails and pistes) are downloaded as map tiles for the area you are viewing, from Esri, national mapping agencies (such as swisstopo, IGN, Kartverket and USGS), Amazon Web Services terrain tiles, and OpenTopoMap, Waymarked Trails and OpenSnowMap through our Cloudflare proxy. These requests contain the map area and your IP address, as with any web request, but not your GPS position. Tiles are cached on your device.
- When you long-press a point on the map, the coordinates of that point are sent to the Google Maps Elevation API to look up its elevation.
- We do not store your location on our servers.
Explore and badges
- Explore lists places and awards badges. Whether you earned a badge is worked out on your device from your location and altitude.
- Your badges, highest altitude and favourite places are saved on your device and synced through your own iCloud account if iCloud is on.
- Badge statistics: when you earn a badge, the app sends the badge's name and the date to our server once, without any account, device or advertising identifier and without your coordinates. We use these anonymous records only to show how many people earned a badge (for example "50+ people") and to understand which badges are popular. They cannot be linked to you.
- The list of places is downloaded from our server (hosted by Supabase). These requests are checked with Firebase App Check to block abuse and do not contain your location.
Sensors, camera and photos
- Barometer and motion data are used on your device for altitude and pressure readings.
- The camera is used only when you take a photo to share, and photos are saved to your library only when you choose to.
- Saved heights stay on your device unless you export or share them.
Subscriptions
- Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- RevenueCat manages subscriptions. It receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase history to tell the app whether Pro is active.
- Pro badges for subscription time are worked out on your device from your App Store purchase history.
Analytics and crash reports
- We use Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring and Remote Config) to understand how the app is used, fix crashes and turn features on or off. Firebase receives usage events, device and app information, and crash logs.
Advertising
- Free users see ads from Google AdMob. If you allow tracking when iOS asks, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show personalised ads. If you do not, ads are not personalised by that identifier. You can change this any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Pro users do not see ads.
Notifications
- If you allow notifications, your device's push token is sent to OneSignal and to our notification service, together with your language, region, time zone and whether you have Pro, so we can send relevant messages. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Your choices and contact
- You can turn off location, camera, photos, notifications and tracking permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
- Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. Data in your iCloud can be removed in iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
- Questions or requests: Furkan Özoğlu, fozodev@gmail.com.
We may update this policy. The date above shows the latest version.
